WeTransfer link expired after 3 days? What you can do

You clicked a WeTransfer link and got a page saying the transfer has expired. The files are gone from WeTransfer's servers and there is nothing on the recipient's side that brings them back.

Why it expired

On WeTransfer Free and Starter, every transfer expires 3 days after it was sent, according to the help center. Some versions of the pricing page have said "up to 7 days"; the enforced figure is 3. There is no way for a free sender to extend a link.

What to do now

1. Ask the sender to send again. That is the only fix on Free and Starter. Suggest they send during a period when you can download within 72 hours.
2. If the sender is on Ultimate, they can recover the expired transfer from their account and re-share it.
3. Ask for a link that lasts longer. Several services let the sender choose 7, 14 or 30 days on the free plan. The limits tracker lists them. On Honestfiles, the sender picks 1 to 30 days on Free, the exact end date is shown before sending, and either side can extend: the sender with one click, the recipient by pressing "Ask for more time".

For senders: avoid the problem

• Send when you know the recipient is around; 3 days is short over a weekend.
• Put the expiry date in your message so nobody is surprised.
• If you regularly need longer, use a service that lets you set it. Paying WeTransfer's Starter plan does not help here: it keeps the 3-day expiry.
